Our Response to COVID-19
GCPC Session Decisions
At its meeting on March 16, 2020, the Session, following guidance from the Presbytery of the James and the Center for Disease Control, voted to suspend in-person worship beginning Sunday, March 22, 2020 until further advice from the CDC and the Presbytery is issued. We WILL continue to broadcast our live service, on 590 AM and 97.7 FM, each Sunday morning at 11 AM. Bulletins for the service will be emailed to the congregation for their use during the service, which will consist of scripture reading, sermon, hymns and special music.
Also canceled until further notice are all other church programs, such as rehearsals for all choirs, Wednesday Night Suppers, Wednesday Lenten Services, and programs such as Parents Night Out. There will be a need for committee meetings which we hope will be held electronically or via conference call. The Church Office remains open during the week.
Worship and Fellowship in the time of Coronavirus
These are unusual times to say the least! They are times none of us has ever experienced and we are unclear what the future holds. However, we want to assure you of the love and care of this congregation for one another. These are times when we can grow closer together and walk with each other through these unknown days.
First of all, be healthy and take seriously the practices of (1) social distancing; (2) washing hands; (3) not touching your face: (4) not shaking hands or hugging people, but give an “elbow bump” or simply bow to one another in far eastern fashion; (5) stay away from groups of 10 or more people, even in your home. Should you have a sore throat, cough, fever--all symptoms of this virus--call your doctor FIRST. They will provide guidance of how to proceed.
God is in charge. Let us pray that God will teach us new ways to grow with and love each other. We have created a separate site where you can stay up to date with all the ways we are continuing to grow and serve together. Please click here to learn about current opportunities.
Check the CDC website for regular COVID-19 updates.
The PCUSA Facebook page will post a new story each week with corresponding activities and coloring pages.
