We go... to love and serve others.

The God of scripture is the God who sends. God sent Abraham away from his homeland so he could be a blessing to many. God sent Joseph to Egypt to help that nation survive a famine. God sent the people of Israel into exile so they might learn to love and serve the nations they despised. God sent prophets to call the Israelites back to him as their first love. God sent John the Baptist into the wilderness to announce the arrival of the Messiah. Most importantly, God fulfilled that promise when his son, Jesus Christ, came and lived among us, was crucified, and raised to new life, all so we might be rescued from ourselves and reconciled to God.

God is still a sending God, and when he calls us together as a community of faith he also send us to share his love and truth with others. This often means crossing many boundaries—social, geographical, cultural—in order to reach out to those who are hurting and searching for some hope. It also means we have to sacrifice in many ways—our pride, our money, our comfort, our self-serving priorities. But as we remember how far God went to reach us we are compelled to go out to love and serve our neighbors near and far.
